My little cousin went to PROM yesterday! She looked ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL and was styled by yours truly. She is SUCH a little mini me, shape and all and it was  an absolute pleasure to be apart of her prom process. My family is segzy yall hahaha. I’d tell you guys where she got her dress but some things must be kept a secret :)

Summer time is UPON US! Ya’ll know this because I’ve been talking about what I think are some essentials for summer! So far we’ve got: Hairless skin, radiant skin, and a great tinted moisturizer. There are two more items that I feel are SUPER important to take care of during the summer. One of them is YA DOME.

Yes. Hair. Summer is the time to let your hair be fabulous. No more hats, mufflers, scarves, hoods, etc covering your hair and ruining it. It’s time to let your crowning glory shine on through.

There are so many different types of ways to do your hair. A lot of women of color choose to rock their hair naturally during the summer. Let it out to do its thing.

I am not one of those women, and here’s why: I don’t like to. Simply. That’s just not my style.  However for those who want to wear out their hair, turn to one of my mentors Patrice, aka Afrobella, at Afrobella.com, for tips on how to rock your natural hair this summer.

Now while I don’t like to rock my natural hair, I do like taking care of it! I mean, its still MINE. I could do braids, but I ALWAYS do braids, I’m just breaking that cycle. Ok..So then I could do..a sew in! But it becomes kind of hard to take care of my hair properly.

Remember how I said that the best accessory for summer is your skin? Well I wasn’t lying. However, sometimes we just want our skin to be even, so even after all that work, some will put on a HEAVY FOUNDATION.

Love, what the point of that?

No seriously, you do know that will take you back a couple steps, right?

Clogged pores aren’t cute. No indeedy they aren’t.

A very close friend of mine is always griping (and he knows who he is) about women and makeup. He doesn’t understand how people can wear so much makeup and then complain about their skin. As a matter of fact, he strongly believes that the best way to make your skin pretty is to leave the makeup off of it. 

In a sense, he’s right.Hopefully he’ll never read this and realize that.

There’s no way you can keep your skin clear and pile on a whole bunch of foundation on, especially during the summer time.

Well my lil secret during the summer is…:drum roll please:….

A tinted moisturizer(TM).

Tinted Moisturizers are exactly what they sound like. The purpose is mostly to moisturize the skin, but there is a tint in there that helps even out your skin tone. It’s like mixing together your foundation and moisturizer but A LOT LIGHTER, allowing your skin to breathe.

I have tried MANY a TM…and to this day, only one has stuck by my side. However for y’all’s benefit I’ll tell you about a couple of them of tried:

1. MAC—They had a fairly good tinted moisturizer if you’re lighter complected. The tint was not deep enough for me and made me look pretty damn ashy. So anyone fairer than me, mayhap you should give this one a go. This was the least expensive of all the TM’s i tried.

2. NARS—Nars recently released their tinted moisturizer for the summer time. They had a good range of color and it honestly matched my complexion quite easily. However. It looked like i dipped my skin into a vat of grease. WHY was my face so shiny?!

Fashion relates to every single piece of clothing we have. At some point, some designer, not matter how menial, or tragic, came up with that piece. HOWEVER, it isn’t a determinate on how we should dress, or what you wear. 

Fashion Week is a time to display what the designers and industry have decided, yes DECIDED, will be the trends for the upcoming season. What is actually picked up is decided then by the consumers. The important word in that description is the word TREND.

A trend is also known as a fad; Fashion that appears and disappears quickly. Let’s get technical: There is a rapid Introduction, a fairly long Culmination Stage, and just as rapidly as it was introduced it will DECLINE. Fashion is cyclical and evolutionary. It evolves as we do.

Summer is coming up! (Despite Chicago’s adamant fight against it -_-…Mother Nature I see you actin a straight fool)

What is the best accessory to start your summer? In my opinion its Luminous, Clear, Radiant Skin. 

A lot of people think that having clear skin is only possible with either

A. Expensive products,

or

B. Good genes. 

Not true. Honestly, it’s just following a regimen. Simple. Personally I have Normal Combination Oily Skin. In other words my T-Zone(my forehead and nose) get oily. I won’t lie, I’ve been blessed with fairly clear skin. I don’t get acne. Nor do I have big pores. That doesn’t mean I don’t follow a regimen to make my skin look better and STAY clear.

Believe me. I break out sometimes and its usually at the MOST INOPPORTUNE TIMES. Such is my life.
